About headlice.org.uk
This website has been created to share information on the issues surrounding commonly-used, insecticidal head lice treatments. The kind of products found in local chemists, up and down the country.
Most children catch headlice – commonly called nits – at some time during their school days. Many parents react with horror, feeling that it reflects on the cleanliness of their child. It doesn't.
The most common weapons in the fight against head lice – and the one most GPs still recommend – are insecticidal treatments. But increasing numbers of studies show that lice are becoming immune to these lotions. And more importantly, that these treatments can pose serious health risks when used on children.
Our report
One alarming study by a well-respected French Government Agency in early 2006 inspired Wendy Stirling, who runs a natural bodycare company called Botanicals, to commission a report comparing natural and chemical head lice treatments.
This website has been created to accompany the report. We hope you find the information useful. We're not health professionals, or scientists. But we are concerned parents.
